Notes from the Open Meeting – Thursday 5th March 2026 (held online)
Present: Jason Joyce (Chair), Rob Sharpe (Treasurer), Rob Sawyer, Lesley Seddon, Paddy Carrington, Helen Battilana (Secretary).
1) Apology for absence:- none
2) Matters arising from previous meeting. RSa, RSh & HB received training from JJ about uploading to our website.
3) Treasurer’s Report & subscriptions RSh reported assets totalling £842.25, invested in Skipton Building Society:- £590.11 & PayPal:- £252.14. List of people who have not renewed was discussed and *HB will contact BW & PE to enquire.
4) Map funding update PC reported that Waters Corporation have declined to be financially involved. RSh suggests that the WTC grant for Wilmslow Ways project should cover printing of the updated map (in addition to physical signage) because it will show the new routing.
5) Feedback from Waters Although no funding available from them, Waters have offered us a stall for publicity one weekday lunchtime. Maybe in May? Experience gained next Sunday may suggest further ideas for this.
6) Private land bike stands Cllr. Elaine Evans wrote on 24/2 to say that she now has backing from WTC councillors and the ‘the project should go live in April’. The reply from the Town Clerk about new stands on public land was distributed on 23/1 by HB. No further news since about what CEC have done with our list of suitable locations.
7) Wilmslow Ways RSh reported that our proposed routing has been walked (with PC & HB) and a list of exact locations for signage and wording has been completed. Informal meeting held with the Town Clerk Matthew and he seemed supportive. WTC funding available after April. Costing of signage now needed. LS suggested that an update on this project should be publicised via our Members WhatsApp group, with photos. *JJ will do this, using photos supplied by PC and RSH.
8) Updates on Manchester Rd & Hall Rd schemes Nothing official received on M/cr Rd but obviously progressing well. Query about whether speed limit has been reduced from 40 to 30 yet? Hall Rd. planning proposal for cycle route eventually linking to new bridge over A34:- RSa sent in comments on behalf of CW, & PC sent personal comment. HB was defeated by the difficult system.
9) Feedback on CATS Zoom meeting held 3/3. Most of our cttee attended. Interesting overview on Active Travel schemes presented by CEC’s Clair Visco & Hannah Webster. RSh sent a comprehensive summary of CW’s situation afterwards (shared by email), thanking the speakers.
10) #Connected Wilmslow Community Fair PC has material prepared for this event on 8/3. JJ offered to join him on the stall. LS will provide publicity for her Breeze Rides.
11) Next Bramble Bash Top section of A538 path agreed as the location. *HB to check about parking on the rear car park of The Honey Bee. Sunday 19th April, 10.00
12) Plans for 2026 No new ideas. Focus on completing Wilmslow Ways and the updated map, plus increasing membership.
NEXT MEETING – AGM – Monday 20th April, 7.30 at Unico.

Notes from the Open Meeting – Tuesday 20th January 2026
Present: Rob Sharpe (Treasurer), Rob Sawyer, Lesley Seddon, Paddy Carrington, Helen Battilana (Secretary).
1) Apology for absence:- Jason Joyce
2) Matters arising from previous meeting.
Queries continue about Committee personal profiles on the website.
Chris Hilliard’s mother did not reply further about the cycling top – subject now dropped.
3) Treasurer’s Report RSh reported assets totalling £714.46, invested in Skipton Building Society:- £518.18 & PayPal:- £196.28.
4) Subscriptions 2026 RSh has prepared a letter to send to all current members detailing renewal methods. *A slightly revised version will now be sent by RSh. At the AGM, the reference to April payments in the constitution should be changed to January.
5) Bramble Bash The hill near the Airport Hotel, A538, was confirmed as the location for the next workparty on Saturday 14/2 as it is alarmingly slippery following autumnal leaf drop plus emergency work by CEC after storm damage to trees.
6) Email from Richard Newstead received and distributed to cttee members on 11/1. He is from Cheshire Active Travel Syndicate. PC & LS plan to join their Zoom meeting on 2/3.
7) Private land bike stands WTC Cllr. Elaine Evans has an ongoing project, supported by many fellow councillors, to procure funding (not from CEC) for new bike stands on private land eg: pubs/churches. It would be implemented via WTC but not using the new Rangers for the actual erection work. * HB will enquire about the additional stands in public locations suggested to the Town Clerk – at his request – in March 2025.
8) Map funding RSh reported a lack of supermarket scheme support, partly because we are not a registered charity. *He undertook to apply to the following councils for funding:- Wilmslow/Alderley Edge/Styal/Handforth. *PC will apply to Waters Corporation. *RSa will investigate which part of the Airport admin to apply to. Applications to Bike Shops tba. PC suggested including a QR code for donations to CW on the new map.
9) Committee Succession Planning LS will not stand for re-election at the AGM.
10) Training for cttee re: website maintenance HB suggested that all cttee members be given clear instruction on updating our website – just for events etc. JJ has offered to provide this, tba.
11) Plans for 2026 Discussion deferred due to lack of time.
12) AOB Several items which had not been included on the Agenda:-
- i) Manchester Rd Update RSh reported that Mark Goldsmith (Chairman of CEC Highways) regards the scheme as on schedule. He announced that CEC has been ‘promoted’ from Level 1 to 2 for Active travel funding, resulting in an additional £1.7M for the next financial year. It is assumed that this will include funding of the final phase of Manchester Rd LCWIP from Styal Rd to the town centre.
- ii) Hall Rd/Handforth Garden Village PC has recently exchanged views with Jo Wise (senior officer in CEC) via a Teams meeting. She explained the plans for upgrading the current footpath from the dead-end of Hall Rd towards the new bridge over the A34 which will be a cycling link to the new Garden Village. Current plans indicate that it will be divided by a white line – as requested by Handforth TC. Do we wish to challenge this? Is this decision as stated in the guidance document for standards LTN1/20? The MADE Partnership expect to start construction of housing before planning permission expires in September 26. The planning application for the cycle path is due to be published on the CEC portal at any time now, giving 6 weeks for comments. *PC will alert us when it is published.
iii) Wilmslow Ways RSh, PC & HB will inspect the first route to be designated on 22/1. This is a route along minor roads between Alderley Rd & Altrincham Rd. Funding for signage of this first route has been approved by WTC.
- iv) (Hashtag) Connected Community Fair at URC Halls on Sunday 8th March, 3-5. PC agreed to staff a stall for CW and *will apply to be included. RSh will supply our flag in advance. Other help welcome.

Notes from the Open Meeting – Tuesday 2nd December 2025
Present: Jason Joyce (Chair), Rob Sharpe (Treasurer), Rob Sawyer, Lesley Seddon, Ellie Howarth, Helen Battilana (Secretary).
1) Apology for absence:- Paddy Carrington.
Ellie was welcomed to her first meeting.
2) Matters arising from previous meeting.
All the cttee’s short personal cycling stories and photos have been sent to JJ for uploading on the website.
*RSa will collect designer cycling top from Jennifer Hilliard and sell it online.
3) Treasurer’s Report RSh reported assets totalling £669.56, invested in Skipton Building Society:- £501.21 & PayPal:- £168.35. Further discussion about PayPal button and contact form on website. Needs further work, possibly by Lisa J? RSa arranged for HB (as Sec.) to directly receive emails addresses to CW.
After the website payment method is sorted out, RSh will send an email to all on the email list of members requesting payment of subs for 2026, stating a deadline.
4) Local Transport Plan Consultation This was completed online prior to the deadline of 7 Dec. Members were encouraged to submit their responses individually.
5) Cycling Map Revision As tasked, RSh gave quotation from Richard Ross of Active Maps:- 1000 copies for £1300, 2500 copies for £1540. HB suggested a small group work on this project from January. *RSh requested to start work on grant applications.
6) Website updating Several items still to be sorted – distinguish new membership/membership renewal, remove outdated events, update campaigns and show successes, local bike shops, remove dead links on Getting Started & insert new ones suggested by RSa. *JaJ volunteered to work on this within a few days. Any remaining problems may need further attention from Lisa J?
7) LCWIP/Active Travel RSh clarified that the current phase of work on Manchester Rd. will extend to Styal Rd. He believes the second phase from there to the town centre via Cliff Rd is scheduled for the next financial year. HB reported that several U3A cyclists are concerned that the new cycle path contained by wands looks too narrow for a street cleaning machine to use, so likely to become filled with leaves etc. quickly?
RSh is supporting WTC Clerk Matthew on his forthcoming application to fund the first Wilmslow Ways route linking Alderley Rd with Altrincham Rd.
8) Plans for 2026 Next Bramble Bash planned for Saturday 28th February, 10.00. Location tbc.
NEXT MEETING – Tuesday 20th January, 7.30 at Unico.
