Open Meeting Notes — 20 January 2026
Present: Rob Sharpe (Treasurer), Rob Sawyer, Lesley Seddon, Paddy Carrington, Helen Battilana (Secretary).
- Apologies: Jason Joyce
- Matters arising: queries continue about committee profiles on the website. Chris Hilliard’s mother did not reply further about the cycling top — subject dropped.
- Treasurer’s report: assets totalling £714.46 (Skipton £518.18, PayPal £196.28).
- 2026 subscriptions: RSh prepared a renewal letter for members — a revised version to follow. Constitution’s April payment reference to be changed to January at the AGM.
- Bramble Bash: hill near the Airport Hotel, A538, confirmed for Saturday 14 February — chosen due to slippery conditions from leaf drop and CEC storm-damage works.
- Email from Richard Newstead (Cheshire Active Travel Syndicate), circulated 11/1. PC and LS to join their Zoom meeting on 2/3.
- Private land bike stands: Cllr. Elaine Evans has an ongoing, council-backed project to fund stands on private land (pubs/churches), delivered via WTC. HB to chase the additional public-location stands requested of the Town Clerk in March 2025.
- Map funding: RSh reported little supermarket-scheme support (CW isn’t a registered charity). RSh to apply to Wilmslow/Alderley Edge/Styal/Handforth councils; PC to apply to Waters Corporation; RSa to investigate Airport funding routes; bike shop applications TBC. PC suggested a QR donation code on the new map.
- Committee succession: LS will not stand for re-election at the AGM.
- Website training: HB proposed clear instructions for committee members on basic website updates (events etc.) — JJ to provide, TBC.
- Plans for 2026: deferred for time.
- AOB:
- Manchester Rd: on schedule per Mark Goldsmith (CEC Highways Chair). CEC moved from Level 1 to 2 Active Travel funding status, adding £1.7M next financial year — likely covers the final Manchester Rd LCWIP phase (Styal Rd to town centre).
- Hall Rd / Handforth Garden Village: PC met CEC’s Jo Wise. Footpath upgrade from Hall Rd dead-end to the new A34 bridge planned with a dividing white line, per Handforth TC’s request — query whether this meets LTN1/20 guidance. MADE Partnership aims to start construction before planning permission expires Sept 2026. Cycle path planning application due on the CEC portal imminently (6-week comment window) — PC to alert the group.
- Wilmslow Ways: RSh, PC, HB to inspect the first designated route (22/1) — minor roads between Alderley Rd and Altrincham Rd. WTC has approved signage funding for this route.
- #ConnectedWilmslow Community Fair, URC Halls, Sunday 8 March 3–5pm: PC to staff the stall; RSh to supply the flag.
Next meeting: Thursday 5 March, 7:30pm, online.
